Special concert to raise money for victims of Iowa flood

IOWA NATIVES LIVING IN L.A. PLAN SPECIAL BENEFIT CONCERT FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

LOS ANGELES—As floodwaters continue to ravage the Midwest, Iowa natives like Tyler and Jessica Kamerman watch media coverage of the devastation and hear of the hardship directly from loved ones in their home state.  Now living in Southern California, there seems to be little they could do to help; but after learning of the plea for financial contributions to United Way of Iowa, which is working to directly help flood victims, the Kamerman’s have decided they want to help raise money.  The idea of a benefit concert has become reality by the generous support of the couple’s family and friends.

“The footage from the devastation was just overwhelming and Jess and I started talking about what we could do,” Tyler said.  “The idea of a benefit concert came up, and thanks to some wonderfully supportive friends, we are going to be able to make it happen.”

Tyler, 30, is a native of Sioux Center and his wife Jessica, 27, is from Villisca, Iowa; many of the people supporting the event are Midwest natives, including the headlining band The Nadas.

“I’m deeply touched by the many people who have supported us in this endeavor,” Jessica said.  “It has truly been amazing what our friends and family have done to help us and we are both so thrilled we can do this for United Way of Iowa.”

Headlining Reach Out will be Iowa natives The Nadas, making the event even more meaningful for fellow Iowans now living in Southern California.  Also performing will be LA-based Christopher Hawley Rollers, Sharon Temple, and The Quiet.  D.J. Quickie Mart, who is himself a refugee of Hurricane Katrina, will spin in between bands and close the evening.  Admission to the benefit concert is only $20; all proceeds from the event go directly to United Way of Iowa and tax deductible contributions will be accepted.  There will be donated items auctioned off throughout the evening.  Product donations will be accepted anytime; if you would like to support Reach Out contact Tyler Kamerman at (310) 968-2365.  Visit www.HelpIowa.Ning.Com for more information.
